In our talk, we discussed strategies and algorithms that enable fast, approximate queries over large quantities of data. This is accomplished via substantial pre-computation at ETL, sketching data structures, and distributed computation with an analytic database (Druid, in our case). Fangjin is one of the first developers to Metamarkets and the Druid project. He mainly works on core infrastructure development. Fangjin comes to Metamarkets from Cisco where he developed diagnostic algorithms for various routers and switches. He holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering and a MASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Nelson Ray develops data-analytical algorithms as a software engineer at Metamarkets. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in statistics from Stanford University, where he wrote his thesis on the use of machine learning techniques for statistical inference. He has prior experience running large-scale, adaptive experiments at Facebook.
