There are no prerequisites in technology or design required for this workshop. The only requirement is your ability to be open minded. During the session you will be encouraged to analyze, think creatively and ask good questions. Attendees should bring materials for sketching ideas and a device that has Internet access. We will provide data sets.
The goal of the workshop is to learn a method for selecting and depicting effective data visualizations tailored to the task. You will create beautiful data when selecting the right visual.
We will discuss the whys, whats and hows of creating data visualizations: 1) WHY: The reasons why we typically want to analyze data 2) WHAT: A predefined set of actionable data visualization categories used to jumpstart the process 3) HOW: We each have image processing skills that the most advanced computer is yet to over come. Our capability to see images, decipher faces, and analyze what a visual means is a power we harness from our visual cortex. Execution and experimentation with different data visualizations and crowd sourcing solutions will lead to refinement.
