Dr. Abdul Shaikh is a Program Director in NCI’s Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch, where he leads Division-wide efforts in behavioral informatics, cyberinfrastructure and population health. Dr. Shaikh led the first NIH implementation of open innovation competitions tied to the America COMPETES Act (http://bit.ly/nPCOrw), and is an active participant in cross-agency initiatives in data harmonization, advanced computation, and cyber-enabled research. With a diverse background in public health research and practice, Dr. Shaikh also oversees extra-mural grants and contracts, and helps coordinate the Division’s Small Business Innovations Research (SBIR) portfolio with the NCI SBIR Development Center.
Dr. Shaikh received his Doctorate in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and his Master of Health Science degree in Health Promotion at the University of Toronto. He is an active member of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the American Public Health Association, and the American Medical Informatics Association.
