Many enterprises are being overwhelmed by the proliferation of machine data. Websites, communications, networking and complex IT infrastructures constantly generate massive streams of data in highly variable and unpredictable formats that are difficult to process and analyze by traditional methods or in a timely manner. Yet this data holds a definitive record of all activity and behavior, including user transactions, customer behavior, system behavior, security threats and fraudulent activity. Quickly understanding and using this data can provide added value to a companies services, customer sat, revenue growth and profitability. This session examines the challenges and approaches for collecting, organizing and deriving real-time insights from terabytes to petabytes of data, with examples from Salesforce.com, the nation’s leading enterprise cloud computing company.
Jake Flomenberg is Director of Product Management at Splunk, responsible for Splunk’s search and user experience. Jake has a special interest in Big Data and making data analytics more accessible to the masses. Previously, Jake worked at Cloudera working directly with the founding team to tackle a broad array of sales, marketing, and product issues. Prior to business school, Jake held several roles ranging from software development to business strategy and M&A at Lockheed Martin as a member of their Engineering Leadership Development Program. Jake holds a B.S.E. in Computer Science, Electrical Computer Engineering, and Economics from Duke, an M.S.E in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Denise Hemke is a Director of Software Engineering at Salesforce.com based in Tampa, FL. She has been working at Salesforce.com since 2008 and currently manages software development teams that are responsible for monitoring & management, debugging utilities & services, and productivity tools. These tools are critical to detecting and troubleshooting the health of the Salesforce.com infrastructure and its applications. Denise has 10 years of experience working on large scale monitoring and reporting. Prior to working at Salesforce.com, she worked for both HSBC and AT&T.
