Evernote, a company that is rapidly becoming one of the premier cloud-based applications, stands as an example of a young organization that has done it right. They are combining digital log data with customer data to accurately analyze when users are most likely to move from a free to a paid subscription.

In addition to the hundreds of terabytes of online data they store to preserve their users’ memories, Evernote’s online application has logged record high-level activity performed via their API clients and web interfaces, growing to over 200 million recorded events per day. They are using both Hadoop and an analytic platform to deliver extreme analytic performance.

In this presentation, Damon Cool will discuss the analytics challenges faced by companies with rapidly scaling data, and demonstrate a working model for high-speed analytics that even an organization on a tight budget can receive actionable insight from. The presentation will also highlight Evernote’s current analytics system, which was revamped in July 2012 to accommodate massive growth.

John Santaferraro is the Vice President of Marketing for Actian Analytics Platform. Prior to joining Actian, Santaferraro was an independent industry analyst in the business intelligence and analytics market. Before that he developed and executed a vertical market strategy for Hewlett Packard’s business intelligence group, focusing on energy, communications, retail, healthcare and financial services. At Hewlett Packard, he was also instrumental in helping establish the new business intelligence business group with a combination of solutions, products, and consulting. In 2000, John founded a marketing and sales consulting company, Ferraro Consulting, providing business acceleration strategy for technology companies. Along with business intelligence executive positions in Compaq Computers and Tandem Computers, Santaferraro co-founded a venture-backed, data warehouse startup company, Virtual Integration Technology, that was later sold to Teradata as SeeCommerce.
