Tools to Turn Emergencies into Knowledge: Turning 911 into 411

This is expected to be the worst flu outbreak in recent years, but this type of epidemic can be recognized and tracked earlier with the right tools. Microsoft partner, Ascribe, is using Microsoft’s Big Data solutions to turn emergencies into actionable data by gathering handwritten notes from Emergency Departments, using Natural language Processing, analyzing this data and then monitoring to proactively assess & predict outbreaks of infectious diseases. This data is also being used to provide better levels of care at the personal level by feeding the data back down to patient screens in the Emergency Department.

Eron Kelly is a 12 year veteran of Microsoft with a broad set of experiences in product management across the Microsoft Office and Server and Tools Divisions. He is currently the General Manager responsible for product marketing for Microsoft SQL Server and the Data Platform. In this capacity he leads core product marketing, technical readiness, and value proposition for the Data Platform. Before leading the SQL product marketing team, he was a General Manager in the Windows Azure group leading an incubation effort focused on Microsoft’s commerce platform.

Prior to that, he led the product management team for Office 365, the fastest growing business in Microsoft’s history. As the founding member of the product management team, he led the development of the initial business case and strategy for Microsoft to transform its enterprise server products into cloud services. During his tenure, he also led the acquisition and integration of FrontBridge Technologies, which provided key capabilities to Microsoft’s overall cloud transformation.

He has also led the business strategy team for BizTalk Server and E-Business where he was responsible for pricing, licensing, long range planning, business and product strategy.

Previous to joining Microsoft in 2000, Mr. Kelly was an Assistant Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble on Bounty Paper towels and served as a Captain in the United States Air Force responsible for the development and testing of infrared windows materials at the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Mr. Kelly earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School and his Bachelors of Science and Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 kids – including coaching lacrosse, skiing, snowboarding, and travel.
