IBM and the University of Oxford partnered in late 2012 to explore and understand how organizations and have really begun leveraging big data to create competitive advantage in the marketplace. The joint study, based on a survey of more than 1100 business and IT executives, combines executive interviews and case studies to establish benchmarks that define the big data era ahead. One very interesting factoid in the study is that 63% of respondents indicated that the use of information (including big data) and analytics is creating a competitive advantage for their organizations–a 70% increase in the past two years alone. As an increasingly important segment of the broader information and analytics market, big data is having a big impact.
