In this session we will talk about the instrumentation of the Reconnoiter open source monitoring systems and specifically the “intelligent event processing” system within it built atop the open source Esper platform. Processing several thousand metrics per second and making sense of them all can sound like a formidable challenge, moreso when you aren’t sure of the questions you’d like to ask. Esper allows for an SQL-like language to be run against live, high frequency data streams to extract complicated analytics and correlations in real-time. I’ll take you on a tour of how we apply this to high-volume global data streams and you will leave understanding what it is, how it’s done and how you might use it to extract information from your data that you never thought possible.
